Lisbona. Trasformazioni di una città europea

Lisbon is located near the western coast of Portugal, at 38°43' latitude N and 9°9' longitude W. The city lies 30 km to the east of the Atlantic shore and right on the bank of the Tagus estuary, which is 15 km wide eastwards from Lisbon. The city covers an area of 84 km2. In the urbanized area, the altitude is lower than 160 m, although the topography is highly differentiated. The population if the metropolitan area in 2011 was 2,821,876, of which 547,733 (19.4%) lives in the city of Lisbon. To underline that 26.7% of the total population of Portugal lives in the Lisbon metropolitan area, on an area of 3,015.24 km², which is 3.3% of the total area of Portugal. In the recent years, the population of Lisbon has decreased with the movement of part of it towards the suburban centers, due to high costs of housing. Lisbon is a city that has at the same time a very large and rich historical center and a modern and contemporary part in full development. It is a city with very fast connection technologies and in which the economic processes related to the use of the internet network are becoming very interesting.
