Les territoires italiens dans le pays le plus vieilli du monde

This contribution analyses the process of population aging in Italy by region and socio-sanitary districts. After an overview of the Italian situation, the level and trends of population aging are described according to their territorial characteristics. Following the main features of the regional plans and programs of public social and health services are examined to assess how the local and regional governments face the aging process, and what are the policies and, possibly, the instruments concerned. The Italian model is still based largely on the family as provider of care to the elderly. To better understand the implications of this statement the relationship between aging and the changes of family structures are examined.
