Abstract:
This paper aims to relate heritage management plans, operating on the landward side of coastal areas with those used on its seaward side in a new kind of Integrated Coastal Zone Management (ICZM). The coastal landscape of the Calabrian Tyrrhenian coast, within the Cosenza Province, is an ideal pattern where the natural features of coastal ecosystems, the planning of human development and the cultural heritage could interact for a social and economic growth of local people. In this direction, the protection and the improvement of coastal towers, located along the Tyrrhenian seaboard of Cosenza Province, become part of an overall landscape planning where these valuable archeological finds could establish a territorial net for the report and the monitoring of Beach-Cast Seagrass by Posidonia oceanica (Linnaeus) Delile. So, this coastal region may provide a good model introducing a broader approach for the implementation of heritage issues into ICZM programs.
