Abstract:
Located in the heart of the Roman
Castles area, approximately 30 km southeast of
Rome, the archaeological park of Tusculum is
property of the "XI Comunità Montana dei Castelli
Romani e Prenestini", which has bought the whole
area in 1984 in order to protect and valorize it.
Since 1994, the Spanish School of History and
Archaeology in Rome-CSIC leads an
interdisciplinary archaeological research project in
Tusculum, in collaboration with several Italian and
Spanish universities and research centers.
In 2017, the Institute of Conservation and
Valorization of Cultural Heritage of Italian National
Research Council has joined the Tusculum Project,
with two main goals: to plan and carry out
diagnostic activities on decorated materials
discovered in order to plan their conservative
restoration; and to develop best practices for the
valorization of this relevant archaeological area,
also including it in international projects of
enhancement and promotion of tourism in
disadvantaged and minor cultural site
