Bronchoalveolar lavage and the immunology of lung cancer

Current concepts on the application of bronchoalveolar lavage (BAL) of the investigation of tumor markers and antitumor activities exerted by effector cells in the lung parenchyma are summarized. The evaluation of BAL cellular and humoral constituents might provide new insights into the pathogenic mechanisms taking place in lung cancer.
