Sesquiterpenes from the brown alga Taonia atomaria

From the brown alga Taonia atomaria; collected in the North Adriatic sea were isolated six sesquiterpenes: the new compound 4-cadinene, cadinane-4(14),5-diene, (-)-germacrene D, axenol, (-)-cubebol and 4-epi-cubebol, isolated for the first time from a natural source. The structure of the new compound was established on the basis of its spectral data, including 2D-NMR spectroscope.
