Abstract:
To perform a mechanical simulation of a part, a geometrical model needs to be very
often simplified. This simplification is performed based on hypotheses about its
mechanical behaviour. Here, a new process of adaptive shape simplification is
presented. The preparation of the model for the structural analysis acts upon an
intermediate polyhedral representation that takes into account the mechanical
hypotheses specified on the product shape. A mechanical a posteriori criterion has
been implemented in order to estimate the accuracy of analysis results. When a
detail proves to be influent on the mechanical behaviour, it can be re-inserted on the
simplified model, which is so redefined. In this article, the focus is on the
description of the geometric operators supporting the automatic process of adaptive
modelling.
