The author draws an outline of Sicilian coinages and currencies from the second half of 6th century B.C. till 1860, as documents of the history of this island in a Mediterranean and European political and economic framework. Origins, structures, main properties, development of different monetary systems, mints and related coinages are widely discussed, with particular regard to medieval and modern epochs.
