Statement for the report on the badgastein Workshop on reliability modelling of fault-tolerant software

Research in software fault-tolerance is mainly aimed at those that I shall call "high-risk products": products for which che cost of failure is high, and application of software new, at least in size, and it is often required to prove on paper that the product will have a very high reliability, before this can be measured in operation.
