Oblique Water Entry of a Block Sliding along a Sloping Beach

Contributo in Atti di convegno
Data di Pubblicazione:
2007
Abstract:
The free surface flow and the hydrodynamic loads generated by the water entry of a block sliding along an inclined sea bed is investigated. The study is carried out within simplified assumptions under which the problem admits a self-similar solution. The self-similar solution is derived through a fully nonlinear iterative procedure which uses a panel method for the solution of the corresponding boundary value problem. Under the assumptions made, there are two geometric parameters governing the solution, which are the angle of the front and the inclination of the sea bed. The role played by these two parameters on the jet speed and on the force are carefully analyzed. As an attempt of simulating realistic block surfaces, the model is applied also to water entry of blocks with perforated fronts. The role played by the permeability of the front in terms of reduction of the jet speed and of the pressure distribution are highlighted.
