Influence of 3,5-Dimethilphirazolphosfato (DMPP) on soil N2O emission in Solanum tuberosum L. crop grown in Southern Italy.

Abstract:
Nitrous oxide (N2O) is a greenhouse gases contributing 6% to global warming, having a global warming potential 320 times as big of CO2. The N2O is emitted from soils by microbial denitrification and nitrification activity that are controlled by different soil-related factors such as moisture, temperature and nitrogen (N) content. High N input and intensive management are responsible for high soil N2O emissions from croplands and contribute to the increase N2O in atmospheric, accounting for 24% of the global annual emissions. In order to preserve nitrogen availability in the soil, fertilizers with microbial inhibitors are widely used in intensive agricultural systems and this could contribute to reduction of total N2O efflux up to 90%. In this work we analyzed the effect of 3,5-Dimethilphirazolphosfato (DMPP), a nitrification inhibitor, on soil N2O emission from Solanum tuberosum L. crop grown in Southern Italy. The soil N2O fluxes will be discussed in relationship to the effect of microbial inhibitor and environmental variables.
