Hydrogel-drug release molecualr interactions and mobility a proton HRMAS NMR diffusion study

Abstract:
In relation to drug release properties, hydrogels are widely investigated as new biocompatible polymers for in situ controlled drug delivery. The interpretation of transport phenomena of small drug molecules in a polymeric network is essential for a good device design. A comprehensive theory for these systems is controversial and still lacks. In this framework, the new NMR technique HRMAS-DOSY is used to study the diffusive motion of several target drug-like molecules loaded in hydrogels. The experimental results are innovative and used to propose a new model to explain the drug-matrix interactions
