Magnetic domain confinement by anisotropy modulation

Modulated magnetic structures in chemically homogeneous Ni films were created by inducing a spatially varying magnetic anisotropy via selective epitaxy. A new type of magnetic wall was observed. Simulations indicate that the modulated structures can be defined at the deep submicron scale.
