Abstract:
Italy's schedule for publishing Linked Open Data from public administrations is laying behind. Several experiences have been made, but not much is officially starting as far as national projects are concerned, or large-scale institutional commitment is provided. In this paper we describe the experience of Italian National Research Council (CNR) linked open data, the technical, social, and legal issues associated, and relate the experience to other activities that are being carried out by the Semantic Technology Lab. With the use case implemented for CNR, RDF-OWL datasets are generated on the basis of a highly modular, pattern-based ontology, are enriched by means of inferences and NLP techniques, and eventually integrated with linked open data. They are presented in different interaction modes that embrace important tasks such as navigation and search of organizational knowledge from any point, expert finding, competence matching etc.
