Plasticity of brick clays: comparison of several empirical tests and correlation with mineralogical composition and particle size distribution

The aim of this study was to assess the most suitable analytical methods which give a direct or indirect measurement of plasticity of brick clays. For this purpose, eleven clays, with different physico-chemical characteristics, were selected. Correlations for results obtained with the different analytical methods are discussed, with the influence of the clays basic properties on their plastic behaviour being evaluated as well
