The library: a cultural mine

This paper proposes to consider virtual libraries on the web as repositories of complex, digital documents to be not only viewed and searched, but also manipulated by users of different typologies. It presents a prototypal environment, the virtual desktop, in which content may be compared, manipulated, edited,etc. at the browser side. The solution is based on XML technologies such as RDF for designing purposes and SVG to render vector graphics
