Abstract:
In this study, the integration of a raster-based Geographical Information System (GIS) with groundwater and deterministic models is proposed in order to perform landslide hazard assessment. Distribution of the factor of safety values for each pixel is calculated using the frequency distributions of the main physical and technical input parameters. Results show that: a) this approach has a good agreement with the morphological evolution of the investigated area; b) the evaluation of unsaturated conditions both for hydrological and geotechnical analysis gives a better understanding and assessment of slope instability processes; c) evaluation of the variance of the safety factors and maps of the probability of failure values can be obtained by the distribution functions of the input parameters; d) real probabilities can be derived considering the calculated probability of failure with the time probability of the considered triggering events.
