Molecular materials for optoelectronics by supersonic molecular beam growth: co-deposition of C-60 and ZnPc

Abstract:
The preparation of pure and co-deposited films of fullerene (C-60) and zinc phthalocyanine (ZnPc) has been achieved by the use of seeded supersonic molecular beam deposition (SuMBE) and compared with more standard methods and a layer by layer growth. The control on the initial state of the molecule and in particular elf kinetic energy, which can be varied up to about 30 eV, is shown to improve control on the optical properties of the films. Go-deposited films, prepared with high beam kinetic energies, show a blue shift in the first absorption band of ZnPc and the presence of a new band centered at about 1.5 eV that can be attributed to charge transfer between C60 and ZnPc.
