Quoting examples from Accursu di Cremona's Valeriu Maximu and from an anonymous Venetian Arte d'amar, the author examines a common trend in Old Italian translations from the Latin made outside of Tuscany: lacking a tradition like the one consolidated in Tuscany during the first half of the 14th century, translators tend to alternate between Latinisms and vernacular lemmas.
