Abstract:
The post-graduate School in Archeology of Matera (University of Basilicata) carried out several excavation campaigns in Difesa San Biagio, an indigenous village located in the Montescaglioso hill system, a short distance from the Bradano river. Thanks to this strategic position, the settlement of Difesa San Biagio - inhabited between the 10th / 9th and 1st c. BC. - it played a leading role in the area on the border between the indigenous world and the coast occupied by the Greeks. The research involved two different sectors where excavated housing units of classical and Hellenistic periods, as well as numerous artifacts important to learn about the commercial activities and the agricultural production systems of the site.
