On the island of Procida, which was confirmed as one of the most populous in the Mediterranean, the vibe of cholera arrived at first timidly in 1836 and then with greater violence in the summer of 1837. What is certain is that the overall data on mortality are incomparable with those of Naples and show a less critical periphery in terms of hygiene and health and with a greater balance in the economic and social system. Various sources were used to reconstruct what happened on the island, starting with the Acts of the Civil Status with the Register of Death Records for the year 1837 kept in the Municipal Archives of Procida. It was joined by the accounting documentation and correspondence with the offices of the Superintendence of Health and the Intendency kept in the State Archives of Naples.
