Le monete puniche e neopuniche nei contesti tombali di Ibiza

Contributo in Atti di convegno
Data di Pubblicazione:
2011
Abstract:
The occurrence of Punic and neo-Punic coins used as ornaments finds particular evidence at the necropolis of Puig del Molins (Ibiza, Balearic Islands), where examples of the so-called Sardinian-Punic mint I A and B, of the Core/head type and of the local mint with Bes were found mostly in the graves of children. This fact is also demonstrated at the Tipasa necropolis in Algeria. The relationship established between the Balearic Islands and the central coast of Algeria, especially during the second Punic war, finds further confirmation with the discovery of Iol-Caesarea coins from the late 3rd century B.C. on the island of Ibiza, that had been recycled to be worn as pendants on necklaces. The Sardinian-Punic examples that were drilled and used as pendants on necklaces found in Minorca date back to 241 B.C.
