Optimization of callus culture in pea (Pisum sativum L.)

Callus was induced more readily from epicotyl explants than from root explants in pea cv. Freezer. Best results were obtained using B5 medium supplemented with 2 g casein hydrolysate, 30 g sucrose, 0-0.1 mg benzyladenine and 1 mg 2,4-D/litre. The presence of the cytokinin increased the density of the callus.
