La ceramica africana nella Sicilia orientale: nuovi dati da Siracusa e Megara Hyblaea

Contributo in Atti di convegno
Data di Pubblicazione:
2020
Abstract:
Recent researches conducted at Syracuse and Megara Hyblaea through survey projects and archaeological excavations allowed to define a picture of African products in this area of Sicily. Data on ceramics have been analyzed in relation to cities, roads and sites offering specific services (farm, baths, markets, ports, etc.) or helding a specific role in the organization of the territory in order to show the different ability to attract goods. It was possible to identify two different distribution and consumption patterns that respond to the different organization of the territory before and after the mid-5th century A.D. At the same time, research has made it possible to identify forms and productions of amphorae and sigillata previously not attested in this area of Sicily. In particular, Tripolitanian Red Slip Ware and Amphorae seem to have played an important role among the imported products.
