A new sesquiterpenoid, 3-acetoxy-sterpurene (1), has been isolated from the alcyonacean (Octocorallia) Alcyonum acaule and characterized mainly by spectral analysis. 1 is the first sterpurance sesquiterpenoid from the marine organisms
