Wide-scale re-evaluation of the incidence of beta-thalassemia in Sardinia

During scholastic screening for the prevention of thalassemia carried out in north Sardinia, 11527 youngsters from the provinces of Sassari and Oristano were examined. The scholastic screening allowed us to obtain information about the frequency of thalassemic syndromes and hemoglobinopathies in north Sardinia.
