Abstract:
The reorganisation of Langmuir-Blodgett (LB) films of Immunoglobulines G deposited onto SnO2 substrates has been proved by fluorescence optical microscopy. By exploiting the quenching of the fluorescence signal due to the proximity of a fluorochrome to a conductive plane, it was possible to demonstrate that antibodies in LB films can move among the various deposited layers. This motion, which is prevented by fixing the molecular layers by means of glutaraldehyde, appears to take place only during the transfer process of successive layers while building protein multilayer structures.
