Representing knowledge in artificial intelligence programs

The main problem to be solved for building intelligent programs is the representation of large amounts of knowledge in a form which permits one to use it effectively and efficiently. Hence, knowledge representation is regarded with great attention in the AI field. This paper outlines some fundamental issues related to knowledge representation, and analyses the best known techniques currently in use.
