Abstract:
The definition of the investigation area border line, the choice of the proper sampling mesh and exploration technique, the correct analysis of the collected data, represent the most important steps of each environmental research project. The "Krige's Diagram" demonstrates that the evaluation quality depends on the accuracy by which each of these phases has been performed. This paper introduces an innovative geostatistics-based software for environmental data analysis and evaluation, called "Kriging Assistant" (KA). This new tool, developed within the Department of Geoengineering and Environmental Technologies - University of Cagliari (Italy), is able to work both in 2D and 3D dimensions and, moreover, it is able to solve the complex problem of the experimental semivariogram fitting through an innovative and automatic modeling procedure. In this way the estimation errors deriving from the evaluator modeling process are avoided. © 2010 ASCE.
