BETA-LACTAMS FROM ESTER ENOLATES AND METALLOIMINES - SYNTHESIS AND REACTIVITY OF TERT-BUTYL-DIMETHYLSILYLIMINES

A new synthesis of N-tert-butyldimethylsilylimines from aldehydes is reported. Reaction of these reagents, prepared in situ, with lithium ester enolates affords in a one-pot procedure azetidinones protected as N-silyl derivatives.
