Membranes: Potential Solution for Sustainable Development

The primary objective of this chapter is to outline and discuss the role of membrane operations for potential development of sustainable production pathways. Different fields of application are reported. Additionally, new metrics, specifically defined for comparing membrane and conventional operations employing the logic of the process intensification, are described.
