Abstract:
Within the European and international context, in last decades, the development dynamics produced an increasing anthropization of central areas; conversely, peripheral areas have been deprived of functions and activities, becoming more and more remote. This process has caused conditions of territorial imbalance addressed by the scientific debate and the political agenda. The research focuses on these issues to reflect on possible strategies for territorial rebalance, by developing a Systematic Literature Review to systematize terms mostly used to indicate areas affected by these phenomena, and to identify approaches, policies and practices to contrast them. The qualitative analysis phase here presented deepens the first macro-category of investigation related to the thematic framework and the definition of terms. Preliminary results allow a reflection on a necessary deeper understanding about strength and weakness elements of the peripheral areas to be considered as parts of the territorial system for a more balanced systematic development strategy.
