Acquisition, integration and interpretation of multiple GPR data sets in urban area, as part of the ERC Rome Transformed project

Abstract:
The Rome Transformed Project aims to enhance the knowledge of Rome place in cultural change across the Mediterranean world by mapping political, military and religious changes to the Eastern Caelian from the first to eighth centuries AD.
In the present paper the surveys made with GPR method to investigate different sites in the area of S. Giovanni in Laterano, Scala Santa and Santa Croce in Gerusalemme, as part of the ERC funded Rome Transformed project (2019-2024) are presented and discussed.
The aim of the GPR survey is to identify Roman and high-medieval age remains which could enhance understanding of the ancient topography and the urban evolution of the study area. The acquisition were made during the following periods: March, June, July, October 2020 and January 2021. The geophysical team of ISPC CNR has investigated the selected area.
