abstract:
It is reported the cetacean heritage of seven museum institutes of Sicily. In total have been report 88 specimens and one cast of to species, of the Mediterranean fauna and 2 species exotic fauna. Very interesting is the most old skeleton preserved in Sicily that is proper to one of seven Physeter macrocephalus strandings to Marsala (TP) in 1892. Are reported the informations of species of particular importance like the skeletons of Steno bredanensis and one of Kogia sima, strandings in 2002 in the southern coast of Sicily. Interesting also the only two complete skeletons of Balaenoptera physalus and the skeleton of Pontoporia blainvillei from the South America in Rio de la Plata estuary.
