Abstract:
CFD and acoustic numerical tools are assessed on the ground of test bench data to characterise the energetic performances and the environmental impact of a six-cylinder turbocharged diesel engine, equipped with a Common Rail Fuel Injection System. Data collected during the experimental campaign cover a broad range of operating conditions. The CFD approach regards both the development of a 1D model for the entire propulsion system, from the intake mouth to the exhaust ducts, and a 3D model for the in-cylinder thermo-fluidynamics accounting for the mixture formation and combustion processes. A in-house developed routine is developed for the prediction of the combustion noise. Experimental data are employed for the models tuning and as a term of comparison for the computed engine output.
