Abstract:
The Stoics composed many essays centred on the historical figure of Socrates or his moral teaching and largely inspired to Socratic writings of IV century BC, both in content and in style (especially as regards apologetic and dialogic form). The article offers a survey of the most significant pieces of such a literature, with particular attention to Zeno's, Cleanthes', Sphaerus', Antipater's works evoking Socrates, and tries to highlight the differences of approaches and inspirations characterizing the references to Socrates by different Stoic personalities.
