Abstract:
Wavelength conversion is an important part of the manipulation of optical signals in communication networks. Four Wave Mixing (FWM) is one of the possible mechanisms to achieve all-optical wavelength conversion. In a FWM experiment, starting from a signal pulse at frequency s and a pump pulse at frequency/?, the coherent generation of a beam at frequency f=2p-s and the simultaneous amplification of the pulse at s is obtained at the expense of the pump energy via the third order susceptibility of the conversion medium.
