Abstract:
The formulation of a CFD-based stochastic multi-objective optimization of a destroyer hull is presented for operational efficiency and effectiveness, considering variable sea state, speed, and ship/wave heading. A simplified problem is formulated and solved here using low-fidelity solvers and one design variable. The parent hull considered is the DTMB 5415 model, an early and open to public version of the DDG-51. Hull-form modifications are
produced using an expansion of orthogonal functions. A stochastic radial basis function metamodel is used. A multi-objective particle swarm optimization algorithm is used to achieve a set of non-dominated design solutions. The results are promising and show the potentiality of the proposed formulation and methods. Ongoing and future activities include the use of higher-fidelity solvers and the extension of the design space by increasing the number of design variables.
