Abstract:
The problem of the identification and localization of polyhedral solids from a single camera view has been widely considered in the literature. In this paper, an algorithm is proposed to recognize polyhedral objects, which can be either rotated, scaled or overlapping, by using only one orthographic projection. This algorithm is not based on the numerical solution of non-linear equations and does not require any a priori knowledge. It is an algebraic method for testing if a cluster of edges and vertices in a line drawing may correspond to an orthographic view of a given three-dimensional model. It has the advantage as being based on simple algebraic equations, which are easy to solve and do not require time consuming numerical procedures.
