Abstract
The 2014 special issue of Plasma Physics and Controlled Fusion deals with a collection of papers presented at the 19th International Stellarator-Heliotron Workshop, held jointly with the 16th Reversed Field Pinch Workshop. The meeting was hosted by Consorzio RFX in Padova, Italy, 16 20 September 2013. Mynick and co-researchers show how to deal with turbulent transport by adequately shaping the plasma configuration. On the other hand, the RFP optimization is devoted to the reduction of magnetic fluctuations and sustaining the helical state. Calvo and co-researchers show the advantages that might be gained in a perfectly quasi-symmetric stellarator where flow is not damped and differential rotation would be beneficial in reducing turbulent transport at the edge. Anderson and co-researchers describe fast ion confinement changes for helical states as compared to the axi-symmetric case and the relationship with similar S-H phenomena.
