Abstract:
We upgraded our instrument for time-resolved optical mammography, adding a longer wavelength (1060 nm) to aid collagen quantification that is of potential interest for the non-invasive classification of breast type and the detection of breast lesions. The set-up is now being tested on healthy volunteers acquiring images at 7 wavelengths between 635 and 1060 nm and deriving breast tissue composition in terms of oxy- and deoxyhemoglobin, water, lipids and collagen content. Our preliminary results proved the feasibility of in vivo measurements at 1060 nm and seem promising for the non-invasive quantification of collagen.
