Differences in the dielectric constant human sera from patients with different pathological conditions

Data di Pubblicazione:

Abstract:
The amount and physical state of water bound to human total serum proteins varies very widely during some pathological conditions, e. g. the cancer one, and such differences may be easily evidenced measuring serum dielectric constant-frequency behavior in the microwave domain. Therefore the dielectric constant of a set of human sera, obtained from normal individuals and patients with histologically evidenced untreated cancer, chronic hepatitis and plasma cell myeloma has been measured in the frequency range 100-2000 MHz. The analysis of these measurements was made using a mathematical model of the complex permittivity of the human serum, which is fundamentally a solution of proteins and salts in water.
