Abstract:
Polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs) are common environmental contaminants arising from industrial sources and from waste incinerators. PCBs show long term toxic, neurotoxic, and carcinogenic effects; they dissolve and concentrate in the fatty tissues of living organisms, as muscle fat, brain, liver and lungs [1]. It has been observed that PCBs can interact with cell membranes in erythrocyte [2] and the interaction with the biomembranes could be an important step in the transport to the target tissues and in the development of their toxicity.
