Abstract:
Despite asthma shows strong familial association, genetic factors alone are unlikely to account for the rapid rise in the prevalence of this disease seen in recent years around the world. There is evidence that in developing countries the prevalence of asthma is lower than in "westernized" ones. There is also evidence that immigrants from developing to industrialized areas have higher risk for developing asthma than the indigenous population
