abstract:
The prevention of childhood obesity is one of the most important reason of concern for
public health; the prevalence of disease, both in adults and in children, is considerably
high and the term "epidemic obesity" expresses exactly the entity of the problem.
Italy, in particular, shows the highest rate of disease among European Countries: for
this reason, it does appear to be mandatory to implement educational campaigns characterized
by high impact and easy-to-use contents. Aim of the present study was to
describe the "Food Pyramid" for children that has been developed as a first-step educational
approach within the framework of the ARCA Project, a survey of anthropometry
and dietary habits carried out in a large population sample of 5-12 years old
children living in Campania.
