abstract:
The article concerns the iconography of the anakalypsis gesture found on several sicilian terracottas dating back to the late 5th cent. B.C. The research highlights how much the religion is strictly tied with the policy of Dionysius I of Syracuse. Through the investigation of the meaning of this gesture, linked to the marriage, and in connection with the religious festivals of Kore-Persephone in Sicily and with the historical framework of the late 5th cent. B.C., the Author suggests a new reading of this iconography, strictly tied with the political and historical climate.
