Damping Behaviour of Ni-Ti Auxetic Structures Manufactured by Selective Laser Melting

Abstract:
Selective Laser Melting (SLM) allows fabricating near net components. This feature can be associated with the superior functional properties of shape memory and superelastic Ni-Ti alloys to manufacture parts with enhanced energy dissipation capabilities for space applications. In this work, the possibility of the fabrication through SLM of an innovative damper with complex geometry is explored exploiting the superelastic properties of a near equiatomic Ni-Ti alloy and through the design of a specific auxetic geometry. The obtained results proved that it is possible to fabricate limited dimension complex Ni-Ti
