Abstract:
The results of the research on Quaternary tectonics and morphology on the Ventrino active fault (Central Apennines) are described in the present paper. The research has been carried out integrating the results obtained from morphological and structural methods. Tecniques of remote sensing and topographi map interpretation, as well as detailed field mapping and structural analysis have been used. The research allowed to understand the tectonic evolution and quantify approximately the kinematic parameters of the fault activity. The slip vector indicates a normal oblique dextral movement; the average slip rates for the whole fault are o.7 +/- 0.2 mm/y for the vertical component, and 0.6 +/- 0.2 mm/y for the horizontal component; the maximum recurrence time calculated on the main fault segment ranges between 2000 and 6000 years.
