abstract:
Seed storage proteins, gliadins and glutenins, are very useful to study relationship amongst the different genomes of species of genus Triticum for a better utilization of wild species gene pools.
Many accessions of the Sitopsis section of the genus Aegilops were analysed using one and two-dimensional electrophoretic techniques to assess protein variation in Ae.longissima, Ae.searsii, Ae.ligustica, Ae.sharonensis, Ae.speltoides, Ae.bicornis and to ascertain their relationship with the B genome of cultivated polyploid wheats. Aegilops searsii contains similar gliadin components and has a similar HMW-GS distribution to those coded by genes located on the chromosomes of the wheat B genome.
