VisualCarte - Système de Gestion de la Cartographie Thématique

Version 1.0 of this software was distributed with the aim of introducing the end-users of the National Services of CILSS in the utilisation of the tools able to facilitate the spatial analysis, the presentation of results in cartographic format and the integration of these results in bulletins and technical reports. Thanks to its characteristics, VisualCarte is a flexible tool, which can find its applications in any analysis that requires a simple and dynamic way to access and display of geo-referenced information without having to make recourse to more expensive and complex commercial software. VisualCarte relies on a database organised per country and domain (Agriculture, Population, Livestock, Risk, etc) in a hierarchical way. It allows - via its Meta-DataBase - to access data through an interface enabling the user to choose, for each country, the requested domain and the theme to be displayed. Furthermore, this software with its database represents a valid support for basic training on the use of recent tools such as the Geographic Information Systems. This has as goal - among others - to facilitate multidisciplinary approach of National and International analyses, to support the synergy existing between experts involved in the activities of agro-meteorological monitoring and early warning within the framework of the food security.
